Whether you settle for an expensive pair or an affordable one - all football boots need to be maintained well. The boots should be cleaned after each and every wear, or at least as much as possible. By cleaning your boots properly, you will extend their lifespan. Cleaning boots is not a difficult task, but it needs to be done properly and as often as possible.

The first thing that needs to be done is to clean off the dirt that is on the boots. Hitting the soles of the boots together will help remove the grass, dirt and mud. After the initial dirt is removed, use an old toothbrush to get the mud stuck in the grooves and spikes out. An alternative method is to use a dry cloth to rub the mud off. This should be able to remove the loose mud stuck in your boots.

Next, mix some mild detergent in water and dip a rough cloth in it. Clean the shoes with the cloth from every angle. Make sure you drain the water off the cloth before using it on the shoes. Give the boots a final run down with water so that the soap layer is washed off well. Then take another cloth and wipe the shoes on all sides with clean water. Roll some newspapers and stuff them in the boots so that the excess water from inside soaks into the paper. Leave the boots to dry in a cool dry place. Do not place them in direct sunlight or heat as this can lead to cracking of the boots. Once the boots are dry, store them in a bag that is big enough for the boots to breathe.
