The front-office veteran of 41 years-old George Kokinis was hired to be the general manager for the Cleveland Browns, filling the place of Phil Savage, who was fired few weeks ago due to the bad performance of the team.As well, head coach Romeo Crennel was fired and replaced by the former coach of the New York Jets Eric Mangini on January 7th, and he was who recommended Kokinis to the GM position. Both Koninis and Mangini began their career in the NFL at Cleveland in 1991 and have been close friends for years.

The owner Randy Lerner was pleased with Kokinis resume and experience while analyzing other possible candidates. Nevertheless, one of the reasons that supported the final decision of Lerner to hire Kokinis was his awareness of new Head Coach and Koninis friendship and good relationship, which helped in the decision-making process, since they know each other very well and can decide together the best for the team. Lerner also expressed it was great to have Kokinis back to the team.

The Browns are excited to bring George back to Cleveland where he began his NFL career. He is a tireless worker that has spent his entire career evaluating talent and knows the type of player it takes to be successful in this league and in our division,"owner Randy Lerner stated at a public team release.

Kokinis started his NFL scouting career in 1991 with the Cleveland Browns, while doing the internship. He lasts four years at Cleveland, two of those years Kokinis worked together with Mangini. Before coming back to Cleveland as general manager, George Kokinis worked for the Baltimore Ravens for 13 years, in where he served as the teams Northeast area scout for some time and for the last 6 years he was the director pro personnel for the Ravens, until he received the option for the GM position at Cleveland this past week.

Now as the Browns new general manager, Kokinis has spent plenty of time in meetings early this week at the team's head office. Alongside with Mangini and his new coaching staff, they analyzed Cleveland's existing roster and started preparations for the draft, summer training camp, free agency and minicamp. Another situation on the table to analyze will be to decide what they have to do about the quarterback Derek Anderson, who was benched halfway through the season by Brady Quinn. In any circumstance this decision will be done in some time after analyzing some other things, but if they all consider that Anderson is a nonessential player, the Browns could trade him for some draft picks.

As Lerner and quarter parts knows, there is a lot to be done to change and build a new successful program, but the owner knows that by hiring this two men, things will get better at Cleveland. Lerner has faith that with their experience, Cleveland can have a better record next season while trying to qualify the team to the NFL playoffs and maybe even achieving a spot to the Super Bowl LXIV in 2010.

We hope the best to head coach Mangini, general manager George Kokinis and all their coaching staff, who will try to give their best for the good of the Browns for next season.
