He played for Pooraka, a club in South Australia during his early playing years. Didak came to limelight while playing for South Australian National Football League (SANFL) seniors at the age of 17 years in Port Adelaide.

It was during this period of time that he played for Australia at international football events including the junior international rules series against Ireland where he was the captain of the under-18 Australian side.

Professional Football Career

He began his top flight playing career with the Collingwood Football Club during the year 2000 AFL draft where he was recruited to play for the club. He made his debut against the Kangaroos the following year at the Telstra dome. He was introduced into the game during the seventh round and he ended up scoring ten touches and one goal. The year 2001 was not a very eventful year for him, as he ended the year playing only five games during the entire season. However Alan was full of energy and promise, a talent for the future. This earned him the AFL Rising Star Award nomination in the year 2002.

All through his playing career, 2005 was one of the most difficult years and season for him. He had many injuries which disrupted his playing time during the season. He missed several very important games as a result of these injuries that constantly kept him out of play intermittently. During the pre-season preparations for that year, he had a serious knee injury which caused him to have knee surgery. He also had some difficulties which resulted in him being suspended for two matches shortly after the mid season break. Alan later sustained an ankle injury shortly after returning from the suspension. As if this was not enough, a few weeks after he recovered from the injury, he fainted on the pitch as a result of cardiac arrhythmias.

The year 2006 was however a better one for him. It was as if he was being compensated for all the troubles he went through the previous year. He won the Copeland Trophy as the best Collingwood Player of the year.

Achievements and Awards Won

Alan Didak had played 192 games, scored 264 goals, with 146 behinds at the end of round eleven (11) of the 2011 season. He also won the International Rules Series in 2004 with Australia and also the AFL Premiership Player for the year 2010. He has remained at Collingwood Football Club since 2001. In other words, he has been playing for this club for the past ten years. He has hundreds of fans if not thousands who sing his praises on social media pages all the time.
